Product Development in India
Most buyers arrive with a sketch, a reference product or a mood image — none of which is a specification. Product development is the bridge between the idea and a product a factory can build repeatably. This guide explains the process.
From concept to a buildable specification
Development turns intent into a tech pack: dimensioned drawings, materials, construction, finish, tolerances and packaging. This is the document the factory quotes against and the inspector measures against, so time invested here pays back through the whole order.
Sampling and revision
Counter-samples are produced and reviewed on a fixed schedule, each revision documented against the last until a golden sample is sealed and signed. Expect two to four weeks per round and budget for two or three rounds on a genuinely new product.
Colour, materials and packaging
Approve colour against a Pantone reference or physical swatch in writing before bulk. Develop packaging as a manufactured component with its own lead time — labels, inserts and cartons ordered late are a common cause of shipment delay.

What is a tech pack?
A technical specification pack: dimensioned drawings, materials, construction details, finish, tolerances, labelling and packaging — everything a factory needs to build the product without guessing.
How many sampling rounds should I expect?
Two or three on a new product, with each round taking roughly two to four weeks plus courier time. Compressing this stage usually costs more time later.
Can I develop a product from just a photo?
Yes — a photo, sketch or reference sample is a valid starting point. Development converts it into a buildable, dimensioned specification and an approved sample.
