Glassware Manufacturers in India: Drinkware, Vases and Decorative Glass

Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh is India's best-known glass city, with furnaces making blown, pressed and decorated glass for homeware and lighting. Other units across North and West India make tableware and decorative glass.

We help wholesalers, homeware brands and hospitality buyers source Indian glassware and manage the two biggest risks: consistency between batches and breakage in transit.

Glassware: product range and subcategories

Drinking glasses

Tumblers, highballs, stemware-style and tinted or ribbed glasses.

Vases

Bud vases, bottle vases and large decorative vases in clear or coloured glass.

Bowls and tableware

Serving bowls, dessert bowls, plates and jars.

Decorative glass

Candle holders, hurricanes, lanterns, ornaments and lighting shades.

Handmade glass

Mouth-blown pieces with natural variation, bubbles and hand-applied colour.

Storage glass

Jars and canisters with wooden, metal or glass lids.

Indian glass manufacturing capabilities

Indian glass units work mainly with soda-lime glass. Pieces are mouth-blown, blown into moulds or pressed, then annealed, cut, polished and decorated. Decoration includes spray colour, lustre, frosting, etching, painting and metal fittings. Highly automated machine-made tableware is less common, so India suits buyers who value handmade character and mid-volume runs.

Techniques and finishes

Mouth-blown and mould-blown

Thin walls and organic shapes; small natural variations are part of the product.

Pressed glass

Thicker, uniform pieces such as bowls and candle holders.

Decoration

Colour sprays, lustre, frosted and etched finishes, hand painting and metal or wooden fittings.

Customisation and private label

New shapes need moulds, and colours are matched to your standard with trial batches. Decorated finishes are applied after forming, so a single glass shape can support several colourways. Private-label options include gift boxes, labels and barcodes.

Sampling and production process

01

Shape and colour brief

Drawings, references, capacity and colour standard.

02

Moulds and trials

Mould development and first trial pieces.

03

Approval sample

Size, weight, wall thickness and colour approved and sealed.

04

Bulk production

Forming, annealing and decoration with in-line checks for bubbles, cracks and colour.

05

Inspection and packing test

AQL inspection and a drop test on packed cartons.

MOQ and lead-time considerations

Furnace work runs in batches, so minimums per colour and shape are higher than for most handmade goods. Custom moulds and colours add lead time. Seasonal products such as lanterns and ornaments should be developed well ahead of the shipping window.

Compliance and certification

Food-contact rules

Items touching food must meet EU Regulation 1935/2004 (plus national rules such as Germany's LFGB) and US FDA requirements; migration tests are done on the finished item.

Decorated rims

Decoration on the lip area of drinking glasses can be tested for lead and cadmium; California Proposition 65 is a common requirement for US buyers.

EU / UK general product safety

Consumer products need a responsible economic operator in the EU (GPSR) and traceability details on product or packaging; Great Britain applies its own product safety rules.

Packaging and export logistics

Breakage is the biggest cost risk. We specify dividers, honeycomb or moulded pulp inserts, carton strength and maximum carton weight, and test packed cartons before bulk shipping. Glass usually ships by sea in full or consolidated containers.

International buyer questions

Is Indian glassware handmade?

Much of it is mouth-blown or hand-finished, especially in Firozabad. Expect small variations in size, colour and bubbles, and agree acceptable limits.

Can Indian factories match my colour?

Yes, with trial batches. Colour can vary between furnace runs, so we approve a colour range rather than a single point.

How do you reduce breakage?

We specify inner packaging and carton strength, and run drop tests on packed cartons before bulk shipment.

Is Indian glassware food-safe?

Plain glass is generally suitable for food contact, but decorated areas need testing. We arrange food-contact and lip-area tests on request.
