Who pays them
Ask whether they take a fee from you, a commission from factories, or both. Fees paid only by the buyer keep incentives aligned.
Garments & apparel · How to choose a sourcing partner
Brands and retailers looking for garment sourcing companies in India meet three very different models: independent sourcing agents, buying houses with their own merchandising teams, and exporters that sell their own factory capacity. They differ in who they work for, how they are paid and who carries the risk.
This guide explains the differences, the questions to ask before you sign, and where Sourcing India fits, so you can choose on facts rather than on the lowest quote.

Ask whether they take a fee from you, a commission from factories, or both. Fees paid only by the buyer keep incentives aligned.
You should know the name and address of every factory and subcontractor making your goods, including printing, embroidery and washing units.
Ask for examples of the same product type and quality tier, such as 180 GSM jersey, washed denim or embellished womenswear, not just 'garments'.
Ask for their inspection checkpoints, AQL levels and a sample report. In-line inspection matters more than a final check alone.
Ask how they verify social audits, chemical test reports and fibre certificates, and whether they check certificate scope and validity.
Agree in writing how claims, delays and rejected goods are handled before the first order.
Sourcing India is a buyer-side sourcing company. We do not own garment factories or sell garments from stock. We find, qualify and manage independent Indian manufacturers and exporters for you, and the factory is your supplier of record.
Our work covers supplier identification, factory verification, sampling and development, fabric and trim coordination, production follow-up, inspections and shipment coordination. You approve every factory and every sample before bulk starts.
A sourcing company adds a fee or commission to your cost. In return you get factory comparison, local follow-up and independent quality checks. If you already have a proven factory and staff in India, you may not need one.
No sourcing company can remove every risk. Lead times depend on fabric availability, approvals and peak seasons, and factories have limited capacity. A good partner tells you early when a target price or delivery date is not realistic.
Duty, labelling and compliance differ by market. Our country guides list the main rules with official sources.
A sourcing company or agent works for the buyer across any factory. A buying house runs its own merchandising and QC teams and often concentrates orders on a fixed group of factories. Some do both.
Some exporters do, but independent sourcing companies usually do not. Sourcing India does not own factories; we manage independent manufacturers on your behalf.
Usually a percentage commission on FOB value, a fixed fee per project, or a retainer. Ask whether any commission is also taken from the factory.
Yes, if the product suits factories that accept smaller runs, such as simple knitwear. Complex woven, washed or embellished styles usually need higher minimums.
