Hand-knotted wool

Wool rugs · Knotted, tufted and flatweave
Wool is the most widely used fibre in Indian handmade rugs. It is naturally resilient, resists soiling, takes dye well and ages gracefully. The quality of a wool rug, though, depends on the wool itself, how it is spun and how the rug is made.
We source wool rugs across knotted, tufted and flatweave constructions, specifying the wool, spinning and construction so the rug you approve is the rug you receive in bulk.

Inspection follows our five checkpoints — factory audit, pre-production, during production, pre-shipment and loading — against the sealed golden sample. See quality control in India.
Minimums depend on construction: knotted rugs can be made per piece, while custom-dyed tufted programmes have practical minimums set by yarn dyeing and setup.
Every programme can be produced under your own brand, with your labels and packaging. Read about private label manufacturing in India.
Market-specific sizing, labelling and testing notes for this category are covered in the carpets & rugs buyer guide.
Neither is better for every rug. New Zealand wool is usually whiter and longer-staple, which helps with light colours and lower shedding; Indian wool has a characterful hand and good value. Many rugs use a blend.
New wool rugs release loose fibres left from spinning and shearing. It reduces with use. Excessive or long-lasting shedding points to short-staple wool or poor finishing, which is why we assess it at sampling.
