DCTS graduation for Chapter 73Iron and steel articles (Ch. 73) from India are graduated from DCTS preferences until 31 Dec 2028, so CETA is the route for household steel. Check whether your cutlery (Ch. 82) is graduated too.Checkedgov.uk

Materials, food contact and testing

Food-contact testing
UK buyers commonly ask for migration tests using the Council of Europe metals and alloys guide (CM/Res(2013)9) as the reference, plus tests on coatings and handles.
Origin evidence
To claim CETA rates, the factory must provide the origin information behind the origin statement. We request it at order stage.
Packaging
EAN barcodes, care and dishwasher guidance, and UK importer details on the pack.

Private label, QC and shipment planning

Indian goods usually ship to Felixstowe, Southampton or London Gateway. Build the origin paperwork into the order from the start, because a CETA claim cannot be fixed after shipment without evidence.

Read the stainless steel QC checklist and the 18/10 vs 18/8 vs 18/0 guide.

UK buyer questions

Is there import duty on stainless steel kitchenware from India into the UK?

Many lines have reduced or zero duty under the UK–India trade agreement since 15 July 2026, if the goods meet its rules of origin. Check your commodity code on the UK Trade Tariff (checked 25 Oct 2026).

Can I use DCTS instead of the trade deal for steel goods?

Iron and steel articles from India (Ch. 73) are graduated from DCTS preferences until 31 Dec 2028, so the trade agreement is the practical route.

What food-contact rules apply to cutlery in the UK?

Assimilated Regulation (EC) 1935/2004 applies in Great Britain. Materials must be safe and traceable, and labs often test metals against the Council of Europe guide.

Are there rules on selling knives online in the UK?

Yes, for bladed products that can cause serious injury: age verification and delivery rules apply. Check whether the knives in your range are in scope.
